Before the Fish Titles - Final

Here are my final opening titles! I switched things around A LOT from the midterm project and I like it a lot better this way. I went through many different styles of the text and finally wound up with this style, which I absolutely love. Fun and youthful, but not too childish. Some of the other title text I had tried looked way too much like a 5 year old had written it. Oops. And I also liked the colors I chose. The orange in the title works nicely off the color of the fish and can still be seen over the background. Overall, I am super happy with the way these came out and I can't wait to put them in context with the full film!

Full Fish Rotoscope

At 30fps, this took MUCH longer to do than I expected. Enjoy!

For Fun!

Here's a super quick name graphic I rotoscoped that I plan on using at the beginning of the production reel I plan on sending out to potential employers:
It's extremely short because I realized I could just loop it for however long I needed as opposed to spending much more time sketching it out for every frame. Yay shortcuts!

Fish Rotoscope

The simple rotoscope of the fish.

Midterm - Before the Fish Titles

For my midterm, I decided to rotoscope the fish from a project I did last spring to use as opening credits. The film has a fun, playful feel to it, so I felt that the animated fish might be a fun opening effect. And let me tell you, rotoscoping may sound easy, and in practice it may be easy, but it is very tedious work. Being the perfectionist I occasionally tend to be, I decided to rotoscope every frame. With 30 fps and about 2-3 minutes of work for each frame, the time really begins to add up.

For the final, I hope to make the rotoscoped segment longer, as well as add some color. I am thinking of starting with the black and white rotoscope, fade into a colored version and then fade to the original footage. I also plan on rotoscoping the title text as well.

Midterm Proposal

For my midterm, I'd like to try rotoscoping. I have a short film I made last Spring called Before the Fish and I think it would be interesting to have the opening credits be a short animation of the fish swimming across the screen.

About Me

I'm a senior Communication Studies (Radio/TV/Film) major at TCNJ and my socks never match. In my free time I like to sing and make movies, and I'm learning to play piano. My favorite place in the world is my grandmother's lake house in Maine and if I could visit any country, I'd choose Finland. On campus, I'm the President of Lions Television (LTV), a DJ for WTSR, and a member of the Treblemakers (all-female a capella). I am currently an intern for PBS Kids Sprout, and when I graduate in May I hope to find a job in the field of Children's Television.
